What is a Romney Sheep?

The Australian Romney is a rare breed of sheep which evolved from the Romney Marsh Sheep. These sheep originated from the Romney Marshes of Kent, England and were thought to be first imported into Australia in 1872.

A large framed dual purpose sheep, it is known for its heavy cutting fleece, good lambing percentages, with a high proportion of twins being produced.

Romney wool is sort after by fibre enthusiasts and is ideal for hand spinning.
